This project questions the symbol of an Ivory Tower by imparting a critical challenge to the various obligations of contemporary academic institutions. Since the 19th century, the Ivory Tower has been used to describe an environment of intellectual pursuit disconnected from practicality. Instead, this project interrogates the role that academic institutions play both within society and their respective disciplines. The school is defined by its obligations; to the public, to NYU, and to the design disciplines at large.
